Career Support & Connections

Provide career-related or other supportive experiences that help students succeed and connect them with professional opportunities.

• Class Speaker (virtual and in-person)

  Join a class on campus or virtually for a presentation, Q&A, or other activities to share your knowledge and experience with today’s students.

• Career Collaborative or Insight Speaker/Panelist (virtual and in-person)

  Share advice and insights with students on career development and life-readiness topics through panels, presentations, and activities. In addition to industry-specific career panels, sessions cover three themes of life-readiness: wellbeing, career preparation, and personal finance. • Mock Interview Day Interviewer (virtual and in-person)

  Mock interviews help prepare our students for real-world interviews through virtual and in-person sessions. As a volunteer interviewer, each one-hour session involves conducting a practice interview with a student (role-play scenario), reviewing their résumé, and providing feedback. We’ll provide all necessary materials, including candidate information, sample questions, and an evaluation rubric.

• Elevator Pitch Competition Coach (virtual and in-person)

  As a Coach, you’ll meet with students on your own schedule (in-person or virtually) to help them craft and sharpen a 90-second pitch in one of three categories: Job/Internship Seeker, Advocate, or Entrepreneur (Business or Game). The time commitment is light (at least one required meeting between coach and student), but the impact on students is real and lasting.

  We’ll set you up with everything you need: videos from past competitions, coaching guidelines, a sample pitch script, and a scoring rubric. Depending on competition enrollment, you’ll likely be paired with two or three students matched to your category preferences.

• Career Ed*Venture Host (in-person)

  Career Ed*Ventures take learning beyond the classroom by connecting students directly with employers at their place of work. Students gain an authentic, firsthand look at a real workplace environment: exploring career pathways, meeting alumni, and discovering how classroom skills translate to the working world. While every Career Ed*Venture is different, they often involve tours, engagement with alumni and leadership of the organization, and one or more meals.

• Career Fair Employer (in-person)

  Champlain College hosts one career fair annually, usually during the Fall semester. Our goal is to bring together employers who are actively seeking candidates for full-time, part-time, seasonal, and internship positions that align with Champlain’s diverse academic programs, connecting them with up-and-coming talent in tech, business, game development, creative media, human services, and more. We love the full-circle moment when the representative at the table is a Champlain alum.

  This is a fee-based event:

  • For-profit organizations: $300
  • Nonprofit organizations and businesses with fewer than 50 employees: $100
  • Government organizations: $125
  • Enrollment is open until tables are filled.

• Internship Host (virtual and in-person)

  365体育官网 typically follow the academic calendar; require a learning contract collaboratively designed by the student, employer, and faculty facilitator; include a defined number of hours; and require there be a “resident expert” on-site to mentor the student in the relevant academic discipline. 365体育官网 can be in-person or virtual. We recommend that host sites pay their interns.

  Champlain College is proud of its “Experience Included” promise. Students are allotted 30 ‘flex credits’ to support this promise. ‘Flex credits’ are flexible credit hours built into a student’s academic plan to support customized learning goals including experiential learning opportunities such as internships.
